Baseball Game Preview: Alta Hawks vs. West Panthers

For the second straight game, Alta will face off against West. Alta will head out to square off against West at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Alta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.

Alta had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt West on Tuesday. Alta put the hurt on West with a sharp 13-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.

Ian Alvey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, McCoy Johnson was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Johnson is crushing it when it comes to home runs: he's launched at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abel Velador, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Alta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Alta pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.7 runs across that stretch. As for West, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Alta has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. It's a different story for West, though, as they've only averaged .333.
