Baseball Game Preview: Start Spartans vs. Genoa Area Comets

The Start Spartans will venture away from home to face off against the Genoa Area Comets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Start has six straight wins, Genoa Area has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Start proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 19) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Springfield get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since April 27, 2024.

Kolbe Roesner was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Roesner was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was his first of the season.

Roesner wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emari Green, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Braydin Roesner also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Eastwood hit Genoa Area with a six-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comets came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-1.

Start's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Genoa Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
