Volleyball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Melrose's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wakefield Memorial, Melrose was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Woburn Memorial Tanners with a sharp 3-0 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Red Raiders also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Melrose never let Woburn Memorial on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-22, 25-18.

Melrose found their leader in sophomore Sadie Smith, who had 30 assists and nine digs. Smith has been hot for a while, having posted 14 or more assists the last 11 times she's played. Sabine Wenzel was another key player, getting 17 kills.

Alina Ayanian and Lauren Snyder certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Ayanian had 16 digs, while Snyder had 19 assists and three digs.

Melrose is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Woburn Memorial, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Melrose will welcome Duxbury at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Woburn Memorial, they will host Ursuline Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
