Softball Game Preview: Sandwich Blue Knights vs. Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Dolphins

The Sandwich Blue Knights will head out to square off against the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Dolphins at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Monday, Sandwich got the win against Nauset Regional by a conclusive 14-2. The Blue Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Sophie Farrington spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lane Kraihanzel and Mia Consalvi did most of the damage at the plate: Kraihanzel got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Consalvi went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those four runs gave Kraihanzel a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddie Brown, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Dennis-Yarmouth Regional let Nantucket stack five runs on them in the fourth inning on Friday but luckily Dennis-Yarmouth Regional prevailed anyway. The Dolphins skirted past the Whalers 8-7. The victory continues a trend for the Dolphins in their matchups with the Whalers: they've now won four in a row.

Skylar Hopkins was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Carly Phillips also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Sandwich's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Dennis-Yarmouth Regional, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Sandwich took their victory against Dennis-Yarmouth Regional when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 15-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
