Softball Recap: Hunt Takes a Loss

Hunt extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-14 in the process. They lost 20-0 to the South Johnston Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.

As for South Johnston, the win was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For South Johnston's part, Ava Strickland made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Strickland was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, South Johnston got a massive performance out of Lannah Price, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three doubles, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases Price has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Reese Penny, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hunt will host J.H. Rose at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rampants' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Johnston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Johnston at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Trojans have won ten straight at home, while the Wildcats won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
