Basketball Game Preview: Springfield Southeast Spartans vs. Calvary Saints

The Springfield Southeast Spartans and the Calvary Saints will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Springfield Southeast will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

Springfield Southeast is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Decatur Eisenhower on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 558th, while the Panthers are ranked 200th).

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Calvary against Hartsburg-Emden on Friday as the team secured an 86-42 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Saints.

Springfield Southeast better keep an eye on Luke Blackford. He was instrumental in Calvary's win, going 12 for 16 on his way to 26 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Blackford's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Huffman, who almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, nine boards, and ten assists.

Calvary smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Calvary now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Springfield Southeast, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
