Baseball Recap: Catalina Foothills Finds Playoff Glory Versus Cienega

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Catalina Foothills had no problem doing just that on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Cienega Bobcats. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Bryce Weege was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Nate Shoemaker was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Ganon Dwyer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Catalina Foothills is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Cienega, they moved to 16-9 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Catalina Foothills will square off against Canyon View on Thursday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their 17th straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. Cienega does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
