Basketball Game Preview: Waccamaw Warriors vs. Dillon Wildcats

Waccamaw is 0-10 against Dillon since February of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Waccamaw Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Dillon Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Waccamaw is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Aynor: they outscored them in every quarter. Waccamaw enjoyed a cozy 71-52 win over Aynor on Friday. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Blue Jackets are ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waccamaw's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AJ Grate, who went 8 for 12 en route to 20 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Another player making a difference was Wade Leventis, who posted 15 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Dillon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bulldogs 59-57.

Waccamaw has also been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Dillon, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Waccamaw came up short against Dillon when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 57-51. Can Waccamaw avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
