Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gerstell Academy). They escaped with a win on Saturday against the Avalon Black Knights by the margin of a single free throw, 65-64.

Avalon's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jevon Hawkins, who shot 48% from the field en route to 32 points and six boards, and Toran Ayana, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and ten rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Hawkins now owns an excellent 45.2% shooting accuracy. Wisdom Martin was another key player, putting up two points.

Gerstell Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Avalon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Gerstell Academy will take on Saint James at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gerstell Academy will need to watch out since the Saints have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Avalon, they will be playing at home against Clinton Grace Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
