Softball Recap: Eight Straight Road Victories for Doral Academy

Doral Academy never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Firebirds, who have now won 17 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meagan Villazon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Doral Academy got a massive performance out of Sarah Breaux, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Anabela Abdullah, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Doral Academy's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.1 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop McCarthy, they moved to 13-6 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Coming up, Doral Academy will be playing at home against Miami Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Firebirds 1, the Victors 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Archbishop McCarthy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
