Chesapeake and Annapolis are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chesapeake is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Chesapeake and Glen Burnie, and Chesapeake kept the tradition alive. The Cougars blew past the Gophers 3-0 on Tuesday.
Chesapeake walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the third set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-21, 25-15.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chesapeake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Corinne Brandts, who had five digs and two aces. That's the most aces Brandts has posted since back in September. Emily Curtin also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.
They weren't the only good servers: Chesapeake was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 11 aces in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Annapolis didn't have quite enough to beat Douglass on Tuesday and fell 3-2. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 25-13 in the first set.
Annapolis actually scored more points across those five sets (105-99), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 13-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11.
Annapolis' defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Chesapeake, their record is now 6-3.
Chesapeake might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Annapolis when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
