Baseball Recap: Webster County's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After losing to Union County the last time they met, Webster County decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Trojans walked away with a 4-1 win over the Braves on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Micah Austin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Webster County's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Edens, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Gunnar Boone was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Webster County's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Union County, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Webster County will square off against Mayfield at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.64 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Union County, they will venture away from home to square off against Christian County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
