Softball Recap: Colony Takes Down Ranked Lathrop

Colony faced Lathrop in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Knights were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Malemutes. Considering the Knights have won 15 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaidence Browning made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Congdon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Malana Bell, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Colony was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in ten consecutive contests.

Colony has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lathrop, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Colony will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Malemutes: the pair will be back at it again later today.
