Texas high school basketball: Plano East, Stony Point advance to Class 6A state championship game

Nationally-ranked programs set to square off for title in state's largest classification.

The final game of the high school basketball season in Texas will be one to remember. Nationally-ranked Plano East (Plano) and Stony Point (Round Rock) each advanced to the Class 6A state championship with semifinal wins Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Ranked No. 3 nationally by MaxPreps, Plano East (38-0) will meet No. 7 Stony Point (37-1) on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. CT.

Junior forward D.J. Hall provided 15 points and 10 rebounds for Plano East in its 61-45 semifinal win over Lake Ridge (Mansfield). The Panthers broke things open with a 10-2 run to end the third quarter.

Josiah Moseley and Uzziah Buntyn each scored 19 for Stony Point in a 54-46 win over Beaumont United (Beaumont). Buntyn and Elijah Clemons converted from the free throw line eight times down the stretch to help the Tigers protect the lead.

Silsbee will play for the Class 4A crown after springing a bit of an upset with a 75-68 win over Canyon Randall on Friday. Lamarcus Bottley Jr. led the Tigers with 23 points, Memphis signee Jared Harris added 21 and Colorado football recruit Dre'lon Miller posted 12 points and 12 rebounds.

In Class 1A, Benjamin advanced to Saturday's final behind high school basketball's leading scorer nationally Grayson Rigdon, who had 32 in a 75-58 win over Gordon on Thursday.
