Softball Game Preview: Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders vs. Williston-Elko Blue Devils

The Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders are taking a road trip to face off against the Williston-Elko Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Jefferson Davis Academy's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over Orangeburg Christian Academy. The Raiders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Abby Deering made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Deering was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Jefferson Davis Academy let Kinlee Ray and Sydney Owens run wild. Ray scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Owens scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2. Those stolen bases were Owens' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carrie Lynn Loadholt, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Jefferson Davis Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orangeburg Christian Academy only posted a batting average of .000.

Meanwhile, Williston-Elko made easy work of Edisto on Thursday and carried off a 15-7 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.

The victory got Jefferson Davis Academy back to even at 2-2. As for Williston-Elko, their record is now 2-0.

Jefferson Davis Academy took their win against Williston-Elko in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 12-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson Davis Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
