Preview: Canyon Comanches vs. Villa Park Spartans

Canyon is 9-1 against Villa Park since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Canyon Comanches will head out on the road to face off against the Villa Park Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Canyon was able to grind out a solid win over Hesperia, taking the game 56-47. Given Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Hesperia is ranked 172nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Josh Goodall, who scored 26 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Kim, who scored nine points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, even though Yorba Linda scored an imposing 70 points on Friday, Villa Park still came out on top. Villa Park narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Yorba Linda 73-70. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Villa Park has posted since December 13, 2023.

Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Villa Park, the win got them back to even at 12-12.

Canyon didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Villa Park in their previous matchup last Friday, but they still walked away with a 54-50 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canyon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
