Softball Recap: Whitney Young Takes a Loss

Whitney Young was not able to break out of their rough patch on Sunday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 10-5 to the Oswego East Wolves.

Liani Delgado was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Whitney Young saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Nieves, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Whitney Young's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Oswego East, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Whitney Young and Oswego East should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Dolphins (ranked 94th) will meet Mother McAuley (ranked 237th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Oswego East will challenge Bolingbrook at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (88 vs. 443).
