LOMPOC, Calif. -
Nikko Hayes ran for two touchdowns and
AJ Florez added two as well as
Lompoc (Calif.) bested Santa Ynez (Calif.) 56-7 on Saturday.
The lead that the Braves took on a touchdown run by Hayes with 8:00 left in the first quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
Lompoc put up 35 points in the first quarter en route to the win. LHS scored on a
Tyler Ornelas touchdown pass to
Rafael Arellano, a Hayes touchdown run, a touchdown run by Arellano, a
Taylor Cornejo touchdown run and a touchdown run by Florez in the quarter.
Arellano stood out for the Braves in the win. The senior running back ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
Austin Vreeland played well for the Pirates. The freshman running back caught one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to eight on the year.
Santa Ynez's lone touchdown came on an 82-yard pass from undefined to Vreeland in the first quarter.
Lompoc came into the game allowing 6.9 points per game. The seven points that SY ended with were well below its average of 14.7 coming into the game.
LHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 23-15.
Lompoc (8-0) will play a Los Padres game against Nipomo next week, while Santa Ynez (1-7) will take on Templeton also in a Los Padres game.
