Softball Recap: Sachem East Comes Up Short

If Sachem East was riding high fresh off their 9-0 takedown of Bay Shore on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sachem East took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ward Melville Patriots on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against Ward Melville this season, with their most recent defeat being a 5-2 loss back in April.

Gianna Prisco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cameron Buckstein made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Sachem East dropped their record down to 8-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Ward Melville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Sachem East has already played their next contest, a 9-3 win against Walt Whitman on the 10th. Ward Melville has also already played their next game (against Connetquot), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
