Basketball Game Preview: Norfolk Panthers vs. Millard South Patriots

Norfolk is 0-3 against Millard South since February of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Norfolk Panthers will host the Millard South Patriots at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Norfolk took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Papillion-LaVista South by a score of 55-46.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Millard South over Elkhorn South in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Millard South enjoyed a cozy 62-45 victory over Elkhorn South. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Storm are ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Norfolk better keep an eye on Abbi Durow. She was instrumental in Millard South's win, going 6 for 15 en route to 18 points. Another player making a difference was Liv Woockman, who posted nine points and five assists.

Millard South was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhorn South only racked up three assists.

Norfolk pushed their record up to 6-12 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Millard South, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-7.

Norfolk was dealt a bruising 63-21 loss at the hands of Millard South in their previous matchup back in December of 2020. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Norfolk was down 43-13.
