Softball Recap: Bloomington Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Notre Dame, Bloomington was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Fontana Steelers by a score of 14-10. The Bruins haven't had any issues with the Steelers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Jolene Gallegos made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Bloomington let Kaja Wright and Ariyana Campo-Toro run wild. Wright went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, while Campo-Toro went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those five hits gave Wright a new career-high. Izabella Reyes was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

Bloomington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .575. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matchups.

Bloomington's record now sits at 10-5. As for Fontana, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, Bloomington and Fontana will both be playing Rim of the World the next time they take the field. The Bruins will host the Fighting Scots at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Steelers will head out to face them at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
