While Cardinal Newman put up some points on Thursday, the same can't be said for St. John Paul II Academy. The Cardinal Newman Crusaders came out on top against the St. John Paul II Academy Eagles by a score of 13-0. The win was nothing new for the Crusaders as they're now sitting on five straight.

Cardinal Newman's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Correa, who picked up 28 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Cardinal Newman is undefeated when Correa posts two or more receiving touchdowns, but 3-4 otherwise.

Cardinal Newman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Correa and Kai Ly Cao.

Cardinal Newman's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for St. John Paul II Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cardinal Newman will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Spanish River at 7:15 p.m. on April 1st. Cardinal Newman's defense has only allowed nine points per game this season, so Spanish River's offense will have their work cut out for them. St. John Paul II Academy will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Dr. Joaquin Garcia at 7:00 p.m. on April 1st.
