Softball Recap: Derby Takes a Loss

Derby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 16-15 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ansonia Chargers. Even if the Red Raiders couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Ari McNeill led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Emma DeSanty, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Derby's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Ansonia, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-11 record.

While Derby had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
