            Softball Preview: Ponchatoula Green Wave vs. Covington Lions        
        
		
        
        
            Ponchatoula has gone 8-2 against Covington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further  on Thursday. The Ponchatoula Green Wave will venture away from home to  take on the Covington Lions  at 6:00  p.m. Ponchatoula is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3  runs per game  this season.
While Ponchatoula's  win against Mandeville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Ponchatoula skirted past Mandeville  6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  victory the Green Wave have posted  against the Skippers since March 13, 2019.

 Abby Dagro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits. She has been consistent  recently: she hasn't  tossed less than five  strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
 At the plate,  Paityn Lancaster was  incredible,  going 2-for-4 with one  home run, three  RBI,  and one  double. That  home run was  her first of the season.  Rae'El Wheat was another key player,  scoring a  run and  stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
 Meanwhile, Covington waltzed into their match  on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Tornadoes as they made off with  a  10-3 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven  runs or more this season.
 Ponchatoula pushed their record up to 9-9 with the  victory, which was their third straight  at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Covington, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
 Ponchatoula took their  victory against Covington  in their previous matchup  back in March of 2024 by a conclusive  17-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ponchatoula since the  squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
