Softball Game Preview: Robert C. Byrd Eagles vs. Parkersburg South Patriots

The Robert C. Byrd Eagles will head out to challenge the Parkersburg South Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Robert C. Byrd has given up an average of 12.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Robert C. Byrd managed to slip by Grafton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles lost 11-0 to the Bearcats on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered against the Bearcats since April 21, 2015.

Meanwhile, Parkersburg South faced Spring Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Timberwolves with a sharp 9-0 win. Considering the Patriots have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Emma Kuhl, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Moon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.

Parkersburg South hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Valley struck out seven times.

Parkersburg South has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Robert C. Byrd, they dropped their record down to 1-17 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
