Softball Recap: Midland Mustangs vs. Augusta Red Devils
Midland entered their tilt with Augusta on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 23-7 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-2 back in March.
Madelyn Jefford and Haylee Meeks made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Jefford tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Meeks struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. At bat, Jefford fired off three home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 6-for-6, while Meeks went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. In other batting news, Addison Rooffener was incredible, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four). Kori Hart was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with five runs, one double, and one RBI.
Midland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Midland's victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Augusta, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-8 record.
