Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

St. Joseph had won four straight at home, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 11-8 to make it five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the New Canaan Rams a 4-0 shutout. The Cadets were shut out 3-0 the last time they took on the Rams, so the Cadets were just returning the favor.

The result came thanks to Martin Mitev's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Derek Larkins, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That hit marked the first that he has got this season. Jake Rios was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for New Canaan, they moved to 12-10 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. The contest marked the first time this season in which they were not able to get on the board.

On New Canaan's side, Zak Joslin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits.

St. Joseph will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rams: the pair will be back at it again later today.
