Basketball Game Preview: Speedway Sparkplugs vs. Beech Grove Hornets

Speedway is 8-2 against Beech Grove since January of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Sparkplugs will venture away from home to take on the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Speedway had just enough and edged out North Montgomery 39-37. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sparkplugs.

Speedway found their leader in sophomore Madelynn Matelic, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Matelic continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Hayli Clampitt was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards.

Speedway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Beech Grove, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against Perry Meridian by a score of 52-40 on Tuesday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Speedway now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Beech Grove, their record now sits at 6-3.

Speedway came up short against Beech Grove when the teams last played back in January, falling 41-37. Can the Sparkplugs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
