Baseball Game Preview: Calhoun Red Devils vs. Gilmer County Titans

Calhoun hasn't had much luck against Gilmer County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Titans at 7:00 p.m. Calhoun will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Calhoun had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Webster County on Monday. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Highlanders. The game marked the Red Devils' most dominant victory of the season so far.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Gilmer County and Wirt County, and Gilmer County kept the tradition alive. The Titans never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Kolten Holbert made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Stewart, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Remington Huffman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Gilmer County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wirt County only posted an OBP of .250.

Gilmer County's record is now 8-2. As for Calhoun, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7.

Calhoun might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Gilmer County in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
