Basketball Recap: Michael Shamie's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Horizon Science Academy over Patriot Prep Academy

Horizon Science Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 63-46 bruising from the Patriot Prep Academy Eagles. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 54-53.

Horizon Science Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Michael Shamie, who posted five points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Thierno Diallo, who earned five points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Horizon Science Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Patriot Prep Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards. Thomas also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Patriot Prep Academy is 9-2 when he posts at least five steals, but 1-2 otherwise. Mason Seward was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Horizon Science Academy's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-6. As for Patriot Prep Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Horizon Science Academy will take on Liberty Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Patriot Prep Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-47 victory against Bishop Rosecrans on the 20th.
