Basketball Recap: Irwin County Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Irwin County Indians were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to the Crisp County Cougars. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Irwin County saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ava Avant went 8 for 16 on her way to 23 points. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for Avant.

Crisp County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mariyah Chambers, who posted 17 points. Miranda Moore was another key player, putting up six points along with eight boards and six blocks.

Irwin County's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Crisp County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Irwin County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-24 defeat against Coffee on the 10th. As for Crisp County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 58-27 loss against Perry on the 11th.
