Cortez hasn't had much luck against Dysart recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Colts will head out to take on the Demons at 3:45 p.m.
Cortez fell victim to Yuma and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 9-0 to the Criminals.
Dysart came out on top against Coronado on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run second inning. The Demons' pitcher stepped up to hand the Dons a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Demons have won six contests by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jamarian (JJ) Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Dysart is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-9 otherwise. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and three stolen bases. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Nathan Sinclair Delgado was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was John Amparan, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs.
Dysart always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Dysart and bumps their season record up to 10-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Cortez, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cortez has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dysart struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cortez might still be hurting after the 23-0 loss they got from Dysart in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
