Basketball Recap: Fernley Comes Up Short

Fernley and Churchill County squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Fernley had to settle for second. They were dealt a 63-31 loss at the hands of the Churchill County Greenwave. The defeat continues a trend for the Vaqueros in their matchups with the Greenwave: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Fernley still got an impressive performance from Taylor Tollestrup, who went 7-for-17 on her way to 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Tollestrup has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Lyle, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Churchill County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Karlie J. Simper out in front who went 7-for-17 to rack up 19 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Simper a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kortnie B. Simper, who posted 14 points.

Fernley's loss dropped their record down to 21-7. As for Churchill County, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-6.

Fernley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 56-52 defeat against Virgin Valley on the 20th. As for Churchill County, they have also already played their next game, a 48-43 loss against Mater Academy East Las Vegas on the 20th.
