Recap: Thomas Stone Cougars vs. Leonardtown Raiders
The Thomas Stone Cougars struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Leonardtown Raiders had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Thomas Stone took a 52-34 bruising from Leonardtown. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Thomas Stone in their matchups with Leonardtown: they've now lost seven in a row.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michaiah Smith, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makaiya Tucker, who scored ten points.
Leading Leonardtown to victory were Abbey Robrecht and Eva Weller. Robrecht scored 15 points along with two steals, while Weller scored eight points along with ten rebounds and five assists. Madison Baldwin was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three steals.
Thomas Stone has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Leonardtown, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thomas Stone won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Grace Brethren Christian at 5:30 p.m. on January 25th. As for Leonardtown, they will head out on the road to take on Patuxent at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Patuxent is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
