Softball Recap: Monroe Central Takes a Loss

Monroe Central had lost 11 straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-19 to make it 12. They lost 14-3 to the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Bears of the 14-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Jayme Brannon was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Laura Walker, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

As for Alexandria-Monroe, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Alexandria-Monroe's side, the team relied heavily on Stella Griffin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Griffin has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe Central will host Randolph Southern at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Bears are facing the Rebels at the right time seeing as the Rebels are stuck on a 16-game losing streak. As for Alexandria-Monroe, they will welcome Hamilton Heights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
