Hawaii kicked off action last week and Alaska got going on Friday night. High school football in 2016 is alive and kicking.

In the case of East (Anchorage, Alaska), it kicked off right where it left off last year with a 33-0 win at Palmer behind early rushing touchdowns from Joshua Malnoske and Johnny Afuvai. The weather was a balmy 60 degree at kickoff with a light drizzle in Palmer.

Following back-to-back 1-7 seasons, East, the five-time Alaska state champs, went 7-3 last year.



Much of America gets rolling next Friday night followed by the biggest weekend in high school football Aug. 26-27.
