Baseball Game Preview: Weston Ranch Cougars vs. McNair Eagles

For the second straight game, Weston Ranch will face off against McNair. The Cougars will face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Weston Ranch has lost four straight at home , while McNair has lost five on the road.

Having struggled with nine defeats in a row, Weston Ranch turned things around against McNair on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-3 win. The Cougars not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4th (when they won 18-6).

Nicolas (Nico) Orona was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Weston Ranch: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gerardo Ortega, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Jonathan Newsome was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Weston Ranch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McNair only managed six.

Weston Ranch's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 6-12. As for McNair, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
