Football Recap: Gainesville Piles Up the Points Against Brunswick

With a playoff win on the line, Gainesville rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Brunswick Pirates, posting a 42-0 victory. Considering the Red Elephants have won eight contests by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

NIGEL NEWKIRK continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 104 yards and two TDs on only 11 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of DWIGHT LEWIS, who rushed for 66 yards and one score on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gainesville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 218 rushing yards in eight consecutive matchups.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of LEGEND WILMONT, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Gainesville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.6 points over those games. As for Brunswick, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.

Coming up, Gainesville will take on Langston Hughes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Red Elephants will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Brunswick does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
