Basketball Game Preview: Wooster Colts vs. Churchill County Greenwave

The Wooster Colts will head out on the road to challenge the Churchill County Greenwave at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Wooster is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against North Valleys on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Wooster was dealt a 63-18 loss at the hands of North Valleys. The Colts were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-8.

Meanwhile, Churchill County came tearing into Friday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Vaqueros with a sharp 51-29 win. The Greenwave have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Wooster better focus on containing Karlie J. Simper and Kortnie B. Simper as the pair were huge in Churchill County's win. Karlie J. almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine steals, while Kortnie B. posted 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those nine steals gave Karlie J. a new career-high. Vernita Fillmore was another key player, putting up nine points and four steals.

Churchill County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 15 consecutive matches.

Churchill County's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-6. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points over those games. As for Wooster, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Wooster was taken down by Churchill County 47-9 when the teams last played back in January. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wooster was down 34-3.
