Basketball Game Preview: Lawrence Free State Firebirds vs. Lawrence Lions

The Lawrence Free State Firebirds will head out to take on the Lawrence Lions on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with nine consecutive losses for Lawrence Free State and four for Lawrence.

Last Tuesday, Lawrence Free State had to suffer through a 71-42 loss at the hands of Shawnee Mission East.

Lawrence might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 85-66 to Olathe North, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Eagles are ranked 32nd).

Lawrence Free State's record now sits at 3-15. As for Lawrence, their record is now 7-11.

Lawrence Free State might still be hurting after the 48-26 defeat they got from Lawrence in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Lawrence Free State avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
