Softball Recap: Jasper Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Daviess County, Jasper was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the North Daviess Cougars. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Bryn Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Romey Werner tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

Back at the plate, Carlee Rogers and Sophie Werner did most of the damage at the plate: Rogers went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Sophie went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Werner has brought in this season. Olivia Young was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Jasper was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Jasper is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for North Daviess, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

Coming up, Jasper will face off against Tecumseh at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for North Daviess, they will take on Eastern Greene at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Thunderbirds will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
