Baseball Recap: Mariner Triumphs

Mariner won the last time they faced Cape Coral and things went their way on Monday too. The Tritons came out on top against the Seahawks by a score of 16-11. With that win, the Tritons brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Mariner let Princeton (PJ) Marino and Morgan Waltz run wild. Marino scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Waltz scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four runs gave Waltz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Raftery, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Mariner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Mariner's victory bumped their record up to 17-9. As for Cape Coral, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-19.

Coming up, Mariner will challenge Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tritons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Green Wave have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. Cape Coral does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
