Basketball Recap: Edison Comes Up Short

Edison was the 52-27 winner over Sunnyside when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Edison Tigers lost to the Sunnyside Wildcats on the road by a 72-54 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 965th, while the Wildcats are ranked 276th).

Sunnyside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was CJ Jones, who posted 24 points. The matchup was Jones' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Malachi Barnes, who scored 17 points.

Edison dropped their record down to 3-16 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sunnyside, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-7.

Edison and Beyer will face off at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Beyer will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Edison surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sunnyside, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Centennial at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sunnyside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season.
