Softball Preview: Sierra Stallions vs. Mitchell Marauders
The Sierra Stallions will challenge the Mitchell Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Sierra, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Sierra finally turned things around against Woodland Park on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with an 18-2 win. Considering the Stallions have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Marisa Reyes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jessica Bonifas was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she also racked up two hits, the mostshe's had since back in August. Another player making a difference was Nyleen Brown, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and a triple.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Sierra always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .875. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against The Classical Academy, falling 20-0.
Sierra's victory bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
