Football Recap: Independence Patriots vs. Gila Ridge Hawks
After flying high against La Joya Community last Friday, Independence came back down to earth. The Independence Patriots took a 14-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gila Ridge Hawks on Friday. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Defeat or not, Independence got some senior leadership from Armani Cruz and Collynn Yarahuan. Cruz threw for 192 yards and a touchdown, while Yarahuan picked up 102 receiving yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Cruz a new career-high in rushing yards (69). Chance Ogle handled things on the ground, rushing for 82 yards.
Independence has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Gila Ridge, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
As of now, neither Independence nor Gila Ridge have any future games scheduled.
