Baseball Recap: Duchesne Sets Scoring Season-High Against North Sevier

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Duchesne). They blew past the North Sevier Wolves 17-1 on Friday. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Connor Karren made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Duchesne is undefeated when Karren allowsthree or fewer earned runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Karren was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Duchesne got a massive performance out of Payson Davis, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Davis is becoming a predictor of Duchesne's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Scottie Branson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Duchesne kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.4.

Duchesne's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for North Sevier, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Duchesne will square off against Summit Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Duchesne is facing Summit Academy at the right time seeing as Summit Academy is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for North Sevier, they will take on San Juan at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Sevier's pitchers better be ready for this one: San Juan has averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
