Plum is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on the Penn-Trafford Warriors at 4:00 p.m. The last four games Plum has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Things were looking good for Plum after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of North Allegheny by a score of 7-6. The loss put an end to the Mustangs' undefeated start to the season.
Jake Dombkowski put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Dombkowski was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Dombkowski wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Max Vollmer, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another was Enzo Mele, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Penn-Trafford sidestepped Armstrong for a 5-3 victory.
Hunter Brown looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
Penn-Trafford pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Plum, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Plum hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Penn-Trafford struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Plum might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Penn-Trafford in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
