Baseball Recap: Chaparral Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Chaparral and Heritage pushed the score to 16-3 the last time they played Heritage, but on Wednesday defenses reigned supreme. The Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Eagles. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Ryne Dodson was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dodson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other pitching news, Chaparral got a great performance from Tommy Humphrey as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

Dodson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jake Barrows, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Chaparral pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Chaparral will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Rock Canyon at 3:00 p.m. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Heritage, they will challenge Mountain Vista at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
