Basketball Recap: Cuero Comes Up Short

Cuero lost against La Vernia back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Cuero Gobblers took a 69-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Vernia Bears. While losing is never fun, the Gobblers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1133rd, while the Bears are ranked 434th).

Cuero has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for La Vernia, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-9.

Coincidentally, Cuero and La Vernia will both be playing John F. Kennedy the next time they take the court. La Vernia will head out to face John F. Kennedy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Cuero will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
