Preview: North Lamar Panthers vs. Pleasant Grove Hawks
North Lamar is 0-3 against Pleasant Grove since October of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The North Lamar Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Pleasant Grove Hawks at 7:30 p.m. North Lamar will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 546th, while Pleasant Grove is ranked 62nd).
After soaring to 34 points the game before, North Lamar were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They took a serious blow against Gilmer, falling 49-12. North Lamar was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-6.
Although North Lamar took the loss, they still got scores from Anthony Gordon and Blake Hildreth.
Even if they lost, North Lamar's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Gilmer's QB was sacked five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jackson Hoskins and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Liberty-Eylau with points to spare, taking the game 42-27.
This is the second loss in a row for North Lamar and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Pleasant Grove, their victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-0.
North Lamar was dealt a bruising 55-0 loss at the hands of Pleasant Grove in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will North Lamar have more luck at home instead of on the road?
